As far back as I can remember I have had a passion for animals. One of the biggest influences would have been the tiny Toy Poodle pup my family adopted when I was five, called Silky. Silky loved learning new tricks, which he picked up easily, and his repertoire was limited only by my imagination.  Most of all, he was my best friend, and was always there for a hug and a chat. Those dark eyes were unfailingly faithful, and would forgive anything.  Through his life he contributed much that has directed me to where I am today.

Five years of University study provided a comprehensive understanding of both the mental and physical factors that can influence the behaviour and personalities of our pets and animals.

My degree focused on animal behaviour and psychology, with physiology, genetics and ecology. After this, two years of post-graduate study and tutoring university classes provided practical skills that now assist in teaching and helping you to understand your own pets.

Helping to care for and train the dogs at the SPCA is constantly teaching me about the different personalities and breeds that come through the shelter.  My two dogs and I have been involved in doggy dancing (or if we want to be PC, 'heelwork to music'!) and companion dog training as well as obedience and agility training. Over the years I have had the honour of being surroundd by many animals; dog, cats, horses, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, fish, deer and chooks being a few!

Most of all, All 4 Paws is about something I have been aiming for my whole life, - to work with animals and help them live happy fulfilling lives in what must seem like a very strange human world.  As the name suggests, it is all for the animals, and we hope that by providing the best care and working to understand their individual needs, our pets will give us four paws out of four!

I look forward to working with you and your special pets.

My love of animals grew from when I was a toddler when we had a cat and a dog, and a budgie. We lived in town with a paddock behind us where there were a few sheep, one of which I was allowed to keep by the owner when the rest were taken away. Since then I have also enjoyed having a variety of animals, including sheep, goats, rabbits, guinea pigs, budgies, ducklings, fish, tadpoles/frogs, a pony, cats and dogs.

After years of begging, for Christmas one year I was finally allowed to get a dog, Shine (Border Collie). I took an interest in Dog Agility, and joined Cambridge Dog Obedience Club, where I am now the Secretary, as well as an instructor in domestic obedience and agility.  In 2006 it was time to get my second agility dog, so I bred from Shine and got Asta.

Volunteering at the Hamilton City Council Animal Care & Control Centre, where I spent some weekends visiting, bathing and walking dogs, as well as work experience at a pet shop in Cambridge has provided me with further love and knowledge of the care our pets deserve.  This year I am studying “Principles of Canine Behaviour” by correspondence at Massey University, while working full time in Hamilton.

I look forward to meeting you and your furry friends and spending time with them so that they still feel loved and cared for while you are away, and you can have peace of mind knowing that they are safe until your return.
